The Printworks development delivered 164 apartments along with workspaces for small businesses over 9 levels. The building was designed and built to Lifetime Homes Standards and 10% of the building’s energy is supplied from renewable resources.
aspireDM was responsible for securing detailed planning consent for the project and for managing the design team throughout all stages of the design. We also produced and led the procurement strategy to agree a GMP with a major national contractor and monitored the construction process to ensure that a high quality product was achieved.
A key obstacle on this particular development was high levels of contamination found in the site for which required extensive surveys to get the development back on track. The site was heavily contaminated and aspireDM had to ensure sufficient detailed information was available for the contractors to remove the risk from the ground.
During adverse market conditions aspireDM was responsible for carefully negotiating procurement packages that were favourable to both the client and contractors, driving down construction costs whilst maintaining quality.
During the concept design stage, when the project fell into financial uncertainty, aspireDM had to ensure that the construction was delivered exactly to budget in order to support falling sales values; in these difficult conditions aspireDM ensured a high quality and commercially viable project was delivered.
Printworks was awarded Apartment Building of the Year at the Daily Telegraph’s British Home Awards in 2011 and Shortlisted at the RIBA 2012 awards.
